Registration after birth

Within three working days of the birth, the baby must be reported to the Civil Registry in the birth municipality.

The declaration can be made by someone who was present at the birth.

Main rules:

  • The declaration takes place in the birth municipality (at the district office).
  • The person making the declaration must bring own passport/identity card and, if necessary, the marriage certificate.
  • Do you want the baby to have the father’s last name and are not married? Then you should already have a deed of acknowledgement made up at the district office during pregnancy. This deed, along with proof of identity, must be taken with you when you file the declaration.
