Copper-containing IUD

It is possible to get two types of copper-containing IUD’s fitted at Nova. These are the T-safe of the Ballerine.

The way a copper-containing IUD works is very simple: in the womb the IUD excretes small amounts of copper. Copper paralyzes the spermcells that enter the uterus and inactivates them. This means that it is not possible for a fertilisation to take place. A copper-containing IUD also works as a morning-after IUD when it is fitted within 5 days after unprotected sexual intercourse. The IUD makes sure that the lining of the womb changes and a possible fertilised egg cannot implant itself in the womb.
